Dr. Joshua Roundy,
Kansas University

DR. JOSHUA ROUNDY is an Associate Professor at the University of Kansas Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering, and led the Computational Hydrology research group there. Dr. Roundy’s research lies at the interface of the physical earth system and its digital representations through data analysis and numerical models. It strives to understand and improve the predictability of the global water cycle and ensure sustainability and resiliency of our water resource systems into the future. Prior to his time at KU, Dr. Roundy was a NASA Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Hydrologic Science Branch at Goddard Space Flight Center.

The MARC Water Quality Education Committee invites you to participate in the 2025 KC Urban Stormwater Conference on October 28-29, 2025.

The keynote presentations will be given by Mark Doneux, founder of Watershed Management Solutions, LLC; and by Dr. Joshua Roundy, Associate Professor in the Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering Department at Kansas University.

Mark Doneux keynote summary description:
Impaired waters listings, needs assessments, MS4 surveys and infrastructure report cards can paint a somber picture for the stormwater sector. The future for stormwater to make the grade must come from both traditional and non-traditional approaches using new and/or improved governance, funding, regulation, technology and outreach.

Joshua Roundy keynote summary description:
Current engineering practices use limited design inputs to create stormwater designs that are neither resilient to extreme events nor sustainable to continued urban development. The APWA 5600 Stormwater Standards update is helping address these concerns, but work remains to plan for long-lasting holistic installations. Design founded on physical principles and data that address uncertainties in precipitation and streamflow, records of extreme events, moisture conditions, and downstream impacts is essential for long-lasting urban stormwater management.
